The role of the Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM in supporting the acceleration of exports of Indonesian agricultural commodities
The Department of Plant Protection has participated in monitoring activities for the process of making the Avocado Plant Pest List (OPT) which is a requirement of the Sanitary and Phytosanitary – World Trade Organization (SPS – WTO). The high demand for avocado fruit by trading partner countries requires Indonesia to prepare data on avocado pest lists that are scientifically valid and have international standards.
In order to meet the demand for avocado export, the Directorate General of Horticulture, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia on March 16-19, 2021 invited Dr. Suputa and Ani Widiastuti, Ph.D. as a resource in identifying avocado pests and diseases, which the main data are needed in compiling the pest list. Sampling was carried out in two areas of avocado plant centers, namely Kalibening Hamlet, Kebondalem Village, Kec. Jambu and Jetis Districts, Kec. Bandungan in Semarang Regency, while the implementation of pest identification and preservation was carried out at the Pest and Disease Observation Laboratory (LPHP) Semarang. The implementation of activities runs smoothly by adhering to the strict rules of the Covid-19 Health protocol (aniwidia).
